Avatar, Terminator, Stan Winston and what he’s been doing for the last 12 years

Avatar, Terminator, Stan Winston and what he’s been doing for the last 12 years. In a great guest blog, Scyfi Love’s man in London Craig Grobler – aka @ckc1ne on Twitter and a top bloke all around – tells of meeting up and spending three hours in the company of James Cameron ahead of the release of his latest blockbuster, Avatar. In that time Cameron and Craig talked about the origins of his most famous creation, The Terminator, his hopes for Avatar and the technology behind it, the death of Stan Winston and what the future may hold.

Awesome ! I having been waiting to see "Franklyn" for a while - ever since I read an interesting article in Empire magazine about a year ago about a set visit.

The article evoked imagery of V for Vendetta/Equilibrium/Watchmen/Bladerunner/The Matrix mixed with regular every day London. I missed the screening at the LFF (London Film Festival) but was fortunate to get a ticket to a preview screening this weekend at the BFI. I was a little surprised that despite positive reviews Franklyn still does not have an official release date.

After watching the trailer my expectations are high.
You are cordially invited to a Preview screening of Franklyn and question and answer session with Producer Jeremy Thomas and Writer/Director Gerald McMorrow.

A magical realist exploration of the intersection of love, fantasy and faith in four disparate lives, the film moves deftly between contemporary London and the futurist Meanwhile City. Notable for its bold, original use of metropolitan locations.

"Franklyn is basically about four intertwining stories, three of which are based in contemporary London and one of which is based in a kind of parallel fantasy environment called Meanwhile City. Our hero in that strand is this sort-of masked vigilante detective who's the only atheist in Meanwhile City, played by Ryan Phillippe, who basically runs around trying to extract people from cults, has a big cynicism about the whole thing and hates The Ministry with a vengeance."What is Meanwhile City? "It's this place which is sort-of run by a shadowy, religious uber-power called The Ministry who has decided, over the centuries, that as long as they can get their population to believe in something - anything - they can control them. People have faiths and religions based on strange things like The Seventh Day Manicurists and Washing Machine Street Preachers. Their doctrines and dogmas are all based on things like washing machine instructions."

Franklyn stars:
Sam Riley
Eva Green
Ryan Phillippe
Susannah York

Jeremy Thomas and Gerald McMorrow will take part in a post-screening Q&A.
