Redesign Diesel's 55DSL logo

"55DSL knows life moves pretty fast. That’s why their motto is to “live at least 55 seconds per day”—to shake things up on a regular basis and always get in on a piece of the action. It’s what they’ve been doing, as a company and as a streetwear brand, since 1984.

And they’re at it again this year, partnering with Cut&Paste to present the 55DSL Logo Remix. The Logo Remix challenges graphic designers, illustrators, and typographers, as well as all-around creative types, to take the iconic 55DSL Shield logo and spin it into a remix that reflects 55DSL’s culture and spirit, its origins and its future.

The Grand Prize–winning design, to be featured in a T-shirt design for the 2010 Spring/Summer collection, will successfully reinterpret the 55DSL Shield logo and represent 55DSL’s identity as an experimental, avant-garde streetwear brand (which first launched as a spin-off of Diesel), while considering the art, urban culture, extreme sports, and music influences that have always been at the heart of the label’s fun-loving, nonconformist attitude.

The Grand Prize winner of the 55DSL Logo Remix will receive 1,055€ in addition to seeing his/her logo design produced by 55DSL.* During the contest period, all designs submitted for the Logo Remix will be showcased in Cut&Paste’s online gallery for public viewing, commenting, and voting. The People’s Choice Prize, a specially created goodie bag of 55DSL limited editions, will be awarded to the design that receives the most votes online. Both winners will be featured in the online gallery, which will be permanently available as part of Cut&Paste’s online collection of work.

To learn more about the brand, visit 55DSL.com.

*The winning logo design will be used at the discretion of 55DSL and will not replace the 55DSL Shield logo. "

Scrambled Eggs James Bond

Scrambled Eggs James Bond

The recipe for Scrambled Eggs James Bond appears in 007 in New York, a short story that was published in the US edition of Ian Fleming's Thrilling Cities.

For four individualists:

12 fresh eggs
Salt and pepper
5-6 oz. of fresh butter.

Break the eggs into a bowl. Beat thoroughly with a fork and season well. In a small copper (or heavy bottomed saucepan) melt four oz. of the butter. When melted, pour in the eggs and cook over a very low heat, whisking continuously with a small egg whisk.

While the eggs are slightly more moist than you would wish for eating, remove the pan from heat, add rest of butter and continue whisking for half a minute, adding the while finely chopped chives or fines herbs.

Serve on hot buttered toast in individual copper dishes (for appearance only) with pink champagne (Taittinger) and low music.

London Film Festival premiere of "Hunger"

Timeout Opening Nights screening of Hunger

When: 18:30 Mon Oct 20
Where: Renoir, Brunswick Square London, WC1N 1AW

Set in Belfast’s Maze Prison, ‘Hunger’ presents the life of Republican prisoner Bobby Sands (Michael Fassbender) as he protests against the UK government’s refusal to grant terrorist prisoners political status. The film follows life before and during Sands’s 1981 hunger strike without adopting a political stance, instead focusing on how the prisoners resorted to using their own bodies as tools to get their voices heard, and documenting Sands’s rapid physical deterioration. Debuting as a director, artist Steve McQueen brings a compelling and sensual tone to the film, sensitively capturing the relationship between the prisoners and their guards.

In addition to our Opening Nights screening, we've also got nine pairs of tickets for the London Film Festival premiere of 'Hunger' at Odeon Leicester Square on Sunday October 19. Simply enter your details as normal for our screening and the premiere tickets will be distributed alongside the screening allocation.

Sat 18 Oct 13:30, ODEON WEST END 1, Leicester Square

Increasingly fed up with the low status that worms seem to have achieved in the world pecking order, Barry decides that there is more to life than his boring day to day existence working at a compost plant. Life seems so dull. But one listen to his favourite disco record and his whole world changes, and he transforms from ordinary Barry to Sunshine Barry, the next big thing on the music scene. Now all he needs is a band, his Disco Worms (and if they're going to start playing instruments, then hands might be useful too).
This colourful new animation from Denmark is set to give worms the level of cool that they have always aspired to - if you didn't know that worms had rhythm then prepare yourself for a big surprise...

We are pleased to announce that director Thomas Borch Nielson and members of the Sunshine Barry team will take part in a Q&A with Justin Johnson following this screening.

Blindness:
A city is ravaged by an epidemic of instant "white blindness". Those first afflicted are quarantined by the authorities in an abandoned mental hospital where the newly created "society of the blind" quickly breaks down. Criminals and the physically powerful prey upon the weak, hording the meager food rations and committing horrific acts. There is however one eyewitness to the nightmare. A woman whose sight is unaffected by the plague follows her afflicted husband to quarantine. There, keeping her sight a secret, she guides seven strangers who have become, in essence, a family. She leads them out of quarantine and onto the ravaged streets of the city, which has seen all vestiges of civilization crumble. Their voyage is fraught with danger, yet their survival and ultimate redemption reflect the tenacity and depth of the human spirit. Written by Festival de Cannes' Editor

CinematICA: Dennis Hopper's The Last Movie at the ICA London

The ICA are screening Dennis Hopper's unreleased The Last Movie

The Last Movie is Dennis Hopper's second directorial outing, after Easy Rider. Hopper stars as Kansas, a movie wrangler on location in Peru. After witnessing the accidental death of a stuntman, he stays behind in the village, dreaming of a simple life with his Peruvian girlfriend Maria. But he finds himself drawn into the harsh, ritualistic world of the local peasants as they start to mimic violent scenes from the movie with their own wicker cameras. Throw into the mix a Treasure of Sierra Madre-inspired scheme to mine gold, a decadent encounter with a wealthy American family, dreamy camerawork from László Kovács and an original soundtrack featuring Kris Kristofferson, and you have a dazzling, outrageous vision that was way ahead of its time.

We are grateful to Easy Rider Productions for permission to screen The Last Movie. Please note that this is the only known 35mm print in the UK, and as such there is a slight reduction of quality at the ends of reels and some discoloration.

The Last Movie is a 1971 drama film from Universal Pictures. It was written and directed by Dennis Hopper, who also played a horse wrangler named after the state of Kansas. It also starred Peter Fonda, Henry Jaglom and Michelle Phillips. Production of the movie, which cost $1 million, took place in the film's major setting, Peru.

The movie won the Critics Prize at the Venice Film Festival; despite this, it failed financially and critically after a two-week run at New York City's Cinema 1.[1] Because of its resulting demise, Hopper did not direct again until 1980's TV movie Out of the Blue, and the theatrically-released 1988 drama Colors.

Horse and Carriage from Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes, St. James Park, London

On the way to a meeting these coaches rolled past us. I took some pics and later discovered that these coaches were on their way to the set of Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes currently filming in London

From comingsoon.net

Sherlock Holmes Begins Production in London

Principal photography is set to begin on location in London for the action adventure mystery Sherlock Holmes, being helmed by acclaimed filmmaker Guy Ritchie (RocknRolla), for Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures.

Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man) brings the legendary detective to life as he has never been portrayed before. Jude Law stars as Holmes' trusted colleague, Watson, a doctor and war veteran who is a formidable ally for Sherlock Holmes. Rachel McAdams stars as Irene Adler, the only woman ever to have bested Holmes and who has maintained a tempestuous relationship with the detective. Mark Strong stars as their mysterious new adversary, Blackwood. Kelly Reilly will play Watson's love interest, Mary.

Based on an original story/comic book by Lionel Wigram, inspired by the classic tales of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the film will be produced by Joel Silver, Lionel Wigram, Susan Downey and Dan Lin. Steve Clark-Hall and Bruce Berman are serving as executive producers.

In a dynamic new portrayal of Conan Doyle's famous characters, Sherlock Holmes sends Holmes and his stalwart partner Watson on their latest challenge. Revealing fighting skills as lethal as his legendary intellect, Holmes will battle as never before to bring down a new nemesis and unravel a deadly plot that could destroy the country.

"What we've done is hopefully launched a franchise of Sherlock Holmes stories," Silver said today in London.

Sherlock Holmes will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures and in select territories by Village Roadshow Pictures.

Memory Cloud in Trafalgar Square, London

Memory Cloud in Trafalgar Square, London

The ICA is proud to present Memory Cloud by Minimaforms (www.minimaforms.com), an incredible transient light environment set to transform London's Trafalgar Square in October. Memory Cloud is based on smoke signals - one of the oldest forms of visual communication, for three nights the public will be invited to participate by sending text messages that will be grafted onto plumes of smoke. Fusing ancient and contemporary forms of communication, Memory Cloud creates a dynamic hybrid space that will project personal statements as part of an evolving text, animating the built environment through conversation.

The method of textual inscription works with light as virtual ink that perceptually writes and erases through a cinematic interplay with the external environment. Memory Cloud aims to motivate social interaction through the construction of an environment that is given form through a collective act of writing space.

MIRACLE AT ST. ANNA - A SPIKE LEE JOINT
Directed by Spike Lee
Written by James McBride

Miracle at St. Anna chronicles the story of four African-American soldiers who are members of the US Army as part of the all-black 92nd "Buffalo Soldier" Division that fought against the Fascists and Nazis in Italy during World War II.

They experience the tragedy and triumph of World War II as they find themselves trapped behind Nazi lines and separated from their Squad after one of them risks his life to save an orphan Italian boy.

Directed by Spike Lee from a screenplay written by James McBride, the author of the acclaimed novel of the same name, the film explores a deeply inspiring, powerful story drawn from history, that transcends national boundaries, language, race and class to touch the goodness within us all, the Human Race.

The story of James Bond - A tribute to Ian Fleming climax

Some of the cast from the evening including; Jeremy Irons, Stephen Fry, Beverley Knight, Rosamund Pike, Daniel Craig, Joanna Lumley, Gemma Arteton, Roger Moore & Harriet Walter acknowleding Ian Fleming, the cast & crew fo the show and Lucy Fleming for the evening.

The evening started with a 60 piece orchestra conducted by Michael Reed kicking off with the Bond Theme "Overture".

The rest of the night magically unveiled the history of Ian Fleming entwined with that of James Bond. This was done by key excerpts from Fleming's life and the Bond books being read by former Bond stars, Bond(00)files and freinds of theFleming family, interspersed with video and stills as well as the music of Bond and the times recited by an all star cast.

There were to many highlights to mention but standout events such as; the man behind Bond's history brought to life, countless Bond cast making an appearance (including classic Bond girls), the music of Bond brought to life by some electryfing vocals (Beverley Knight stealing the show with her rendition of "A License To Kill" & the closing "Nobody Does It Better") and the touching Ian Fleming eulogy read by Daniel Craig.

Roger Moore, 007 & Classic Bond Girls

Amongst the star studded cast where; Maryam D'Abo (Kara Milovy in The living Dayights), Zena Marshall (Miss Taro in Dr. No), Shirley Eaton (Jill Masterson in Golfinger), Eunice Gayson (Sylvia Trench in Dr. No), Roger Moore (James Bond), Madeline Smith (Miss Caruso in Live And Let Die), Tania Mallet (Tilly Masterson in Goldfinger), , Caroline Munro (Naomi in The Spy Who Loved Me) & Joanna Lumley (The English Girl in On Her Majesty's Secret Service).

(Ferrari) Dino 246 GT

(Ferrari) Dino 246 GT

Dino was a brand for mid-engined, rear-drive sports cars produced by Ferrari from 1968 to 1976. The Dino brand was meant to be used for cars with engines that had fewer than 12 cylinders, reserving the Ferrari name for the V-12 and flat 12 models. The Dino name was retired after that point, in favour of conventional Ferrari branding. The Dino brand was an attempt by Ferrari to produce a relatively low cost sports car by using components from other vehicles.

(Ferrari) Dino, originally uploaded by Craig Grobler.

The Dino models used Ferrari racing naming designation of displacement and cylinder count with two digits for the size of the engine in deciliters and the third digit to represent the number of cylinders, i.e., 246 being a 2.4 liter 6 cylinder and 308 being a 3.0 liter 8 cylinder. Ferrari street models of the time used a three digit representation of the displacement in cubic centimeters of one of the 12 cylinders which would have been meaningless in a brand with differing numbers of cylinders. The Dino 246 was the first Ferrari model produced in high numbers. It is lauded by many for its intrinsic driving qualities and groundbreaking design. In 2004, Sports Car International placed the car at number six on its list of Top Sports Cars of the 1970s. Motor Trend Classic placed the 206/246 at number seven in their list of the 10 "Greatest Ferraris of all time".

Dino 246 GT & GTS
Calls for more power were answered with the 2.4 L (2418 cc) Dino 246. The motor was a 65 degree, dual overhead camshaft, 9.0:1 compression ratio, iron block with alloy heads. The European motor produced 195 bhp (at 7,600 rpm), and was available as a fixed-top GT coupe or, after 1971, an open Spyder GTS. The American version had an exhaust air-pump, and timing changes which created 175 hp (130 kW). The GT had 3 Weber 40 DCNF/6 or 40 DCNF/7 carburetors.

The 246 Dino GT weighed 2380 pounds. The 246 Dino GTS weighed 2426 pounds. The body was now made of steel to save cost. The 246 Dino had a 2.1 inch longer wheelbase than the 206, at 92.1 inches. The height of the 246 was the same as the 206 at 43.9 inches.

Production numbered 2,487 GTs and 1,274 Spyders, the latter being built from 1972 to 1974 only, for a total production run of 3,761.

The 246 had a top speed of 146 mph (235 km/h).

The Dino's 2.4L V6 found its way into a number of other Italian performance cars after its application in the 246, most notably the Lancia Stratos rally car.

This evening as part of the Raindance 2008 Festival - "Flick" got it's World premiere screening.

Flick is a hoot! A mashup of mixed media, a 50's retro styling, rockabilly soundtrack, cliched dialogue at times it comes across as Grease staged by Creepshow as run by Natural Born Killers.
From the Raindance site: Johnny is a shy and stuttering Teddy boy who goes dancing down the Palace every Friday night. All he wants from life is one dance with Sally Andrews- the girl of his dreams. But having finally worked up the courage to ask her, her boyfriend beats, bullies and humiliates him. Johnny lashes out violently, and while being chased from the scene his car takes a plunge into a nearby river- leading him to a watery grave. After forty years of drifting out to sea, the car becomes caught in the net of a fishing boat. Johnny’s decomposing body is suddenly resurrected, and he embarks upon a murderous rampage on those who bullied him that fateful night.

The film is Fun with lashings of creativity sprinkled all over it. However, perhaps the real story is how a couple of local lads, with little budget managed to get Flick made with a stellar cast. The cast includes; Hugh O'Conor, Liz Smith (Royle Family), Michelle Ryan (Bionic Woman), Mark Benton, Julia Foster, Terence Rigby, Leslie Phillips (of Carry On fame), the voice of Richard Hawley and no less than Faye Dunaway - yes, screen legend FAYE DUNAWAY as Lieutenant McKenzie a one-armed detective called in over a murder at Newbridge Memorial Hall.

Faye Dunaway and Raindance's Elliot Grove, originally uploaded by Craig Grobler.

My understanding is that Faye Dunaway became intrested in being involved in Flick and personally contacted the producers after reading the script. Ms. Dunaway is every inch the superstar you would expect her to be in real life.
